I enjoy homebrewing the game as much as possible. I think that there could easily be times/places where magic is more stable and where it is more likely something bad will happen if it used.
I never even realized this, D&D magic is incredibly boring because it's so reliable. Dungeon Crawl Classics is the only d20 game has complex spell outcomes that I can think of.
don't tell my players, but I'm slowly inching my way towards a new game system - one I'm testing now. Hopefully it provides action packed with customizable features for individuals rather than classes.
